Hi, my name is claudia suarez and I am dancer.
I am a 21-year-old dancer from Venezuela, fascinated with the history of ballet and its value as an art form.
I plan to pursue a professional dancing career at a company, as well as dedicate my free time to studying for a Bachelor's Degree that will allow me to pursue a writing career for the arts.
My idols are, intentionally, all dancers with The Royal Ballet. Why? You can read all about it here. I am a lover of all things British, a Harry Potter fan, a slow reader but a book lover, and inspired by the simplicity of minimalism. If you do not find me at the studio, you will find me sitting with my laptop typing a new post or wondering how Petipa and Balanchine could possibly choreograph so many ballets.
Here's my story
I was born in Los Teques, Venezuela, and began my ballet studies at a local ballet school in my hometown when I was 5.
But I switched up my training quite a lot, going to the Central School of Ballet in London, followed by the Fundación Ballet de Las Américas in Caracas, and finally the Vladimir Issaev School of Classical Ballet in North Miami Beach, Florida, where I graduated in 2015.
During my training years, I traveled to London and La Habana, Cuba twice, for festivals, master classes, and workshops. You can read more about these experiences in the Blog.
In 2013, my life was turned around when my mom and I had to escape to the United States due to the political and humanitarian crisis in Venezuela.
After two years in Miami and graduating at 18 years old, I was appointed as a Trainee with Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida and after one year, I was promoted to an Apprentice position for the 2016-2017 season.
Now I currently reside in Tampa, Florida, where I am dancing with Tampa City Ballet. I intend to expand my repertoire as well as explore and learn from modern ballet and contemporary choreography, challenging my classical training to new experiences.
Last year, I was invited to be part of another online platform that is growing into a beautiful print magazine. I am an online collaborator for The Wonderful World of Dance, where I write articles as well as dance reviews. You can read all my content on their website and on their coming issues of the print magazine.
Here is my Mission with Claudia’s Journal
I started writing about seven years ago. I wanted to educate my friends about the value of ballet as an art form. Everything started with reading "A Ballet Companion" by Eliza Gaynor Minden, and getting inspired to share and learn more about dance.
When I decided to share my experiences, I expanded my blog in 2013, then finally created Claudia's Journal in 2016. Now, I plan to develop my blog as a wide experiences archive for all dance enthusiasts.
Yes, dancing has been a part of me since I first stepped into that studio when I was 5 years old. Although, the more I learn, improve, and grow as an artist, the more I want to demonstrate why I keep doing it.
Claudia's Journal is a personal project with which I want to grow as a person, dancer, writer, and as an influencer for the arts. I intend to make an impact, letting people know not only what dance is all about, but also how dance leads my path and inspires me to learn new things. Hopefully, I can inspire others just as dance inspires me.
